Legal Awards 2010

The Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society held its first meeting on the 27th January 1826. We have served solicitors in the North East of England since that time and have promoted professional expertise for over 180 years. We have representatives on many local, regional and national legal committees, organise a prestigious annual legal lecture, have a CPD accredited legal education programme and run a number of social events.

MEMBERSHIP

Our membership year runs from 1st November to 31st October. Call rates for 2010/2011 are:

Partners £75.00
Assistants/Associates and Other Employed Solicitors
Members in private practice £50.00
Members in commerce & industry or in the employment of public, local or similar authorities £45.00
Consultants/Retired/ Unemployed Solicitors £20.00

CORPORATE RATE

If preferred, larger firms may choose an alternative charging rate on behalf of their members.  
1. Firms with more than 75 solicitors £4500.00
2. Firms with 50-74 solicitors £3000.00
   
Trainee solicitors are eligible to become Associate members of the Society FREE

The rates are set each year at our Annual General Meeting in February and Call Notices sent out to all members shortly thereafter. Full details from the office of the Newcastle upon Tyne Law Society.

PRESIDENT AND STANDING COMMITTEE

The officers of our Society are elected at the Annual General Meeting. They are the President, Vice President, Deputy Vice President, Director of Operations and Honorary Treasurer. There are also twelve elected members, two Past Presidents, a Law Society Council Members and up to seven co-opted members. The interests of Commerce & Industry solicitors, Local Government solicitors, Young Solicitors, Trainee Solicitors and Justices Clerks are all represented.

RETIRED SOLICITORS ASSOCIATION

The Retired Solicitors Association meets 3 times a year. Any member of the Society, or any adjacent Society, who is contemplating retirement is welcome to join and should contact the office for details.
